A young person’s sense of identity and belonging is fundamental to their development and well-being. As stated by the United Nations, ‘today, there are 1.8 billion people between the ages of 10-24—they are the largest generation of youth in history…they can be the driving force to supporting development, peace and security’. But not all teenagers are seen as a strength to be developed rather than a problem to be solved.

The film serves as a powerful vehicle to shed light on how an Indigenous led organisation REDI.E addresses inclusivity barriers faced by First Nations youth by creating a community centred initiative to achieve health and wellbeing equity.

With the collaboration of key cultural and community leaders, the film addresses the need to bridge the opportunity gap, enhance community engagement and support young individuals. It showcases how role models with similar lived experiences can inspire and engage young people to participate in initiatives that matter to them.

Our impact vision is to mobilise support for Indigenous Australian teenagers by using the film as a vehicle to create awareness of issues young people face today as a result of our shared Australian history. We aim to amplify voices that contribute to a more inclusive and understanding world. Through our film and campaign activities, we aspire to encourage empathy, cross-cultural dialogue, and active support for marginalised communities, ultimately driving towards a more equitable and harmonious future. The documentary can stimulate awareness, conversation, and action within the community, and society at large, fostering greater support for Indigenous youth outreach programs that are led by those with the lived experience of who they are engaging with. By promoting public discourse and activism, the film will shift public opinion, lead to potential policy changes and legislative reforms that support Indigenous youth and promote cultural preservation.

Our access is grounded in a respectful, and community-driven approach. We have spent an extensive period building trust, working closely with community leaders, Elders, and youth advocates of the Murdi Paaki region. This relationship has allowed us to gain an in-depth understanding of the community’s needs and interests. The inception of this film was the brainstorm of community leader Peter Gibbs, CEO of Indigenous lead and run not-for-profit REDI.E, Regional Enterprise Development Institute, to promote positive career pathways. Through continuing discussion and transparency with Indigenous Elders and participants, we ensure moral and cultural rights are upheld as well as the long term relationships Peter has with Indigenous Elders and communities across the NSW region.

General Public: Encourage individuals to support Indigenous youth programs and initiatives, both financially and through volunteering. We will inspire them to be advocates for understanding and inclusion within their communities.
Educational Institutions: Encourage schools and universities to implement Indigenous education programs, fostering cultural understanding and support for youth outreach initiatives. We will provide resources and guidance to facilitate this change.
Community Leaders and Elders: Urge these leaders to continue their invaluable mentorship of Indigenous youth and expand outreach programs.
Government and Policymakers: Mobilise support for policies that empower Indigenous youth and promote cultural engagement. We will provide advocacy resources and encourage viewers to engage with policymakers.
Through these actions, we aim to ensure that the impact of the film goes beyond the screen, driving change and creating a network of support for Indigenous youth.
