Synopsis
Men’s netball is at a turning point. In a sporting landscape where homophobia remains a barrier, the Kelpies are forging a different way forward. With the highest percentage of openly LGBTQIA+ male players in Australian sporting history, they’re reshaping perceptions of masculinity in sport.
Set against the 2025 Trans-Tasman Cup, Underdogs follows the Kelpies fight for legitimacy, and the resistance they face; from governing bodies to online backlash over their viral Fast5 ‘Bye Bye Bye’ dance. This film is as much about joy as it is about struggle, blending high-energy match footage with deeply personal storytelling.
With minimal support from Netball Australia and players funding their own participation, Underdogs is a rally cry for inclusivity, proving that sport isn’t just about winning—it’s about belonging.
