TOUCH THE SKY

In 2022 a mere 5% of pilots are women, and a tiny 1.42% of all captains are female. TOUCH THE SKY is a series that gives women an opportunity to fly… and to soar.

The eight-part series, Touch The Sky, follow women from different backgrounds across Australia. Mothers, daughters, influencers, and refugees share what it takes to overcome internal expectations and external pressures to take to the skies. Some are just beginning, others are further along, but all want to encourage more female participation in an industry they have come to love.

Discussions with many instructors across the aviation sector indicate that women often make better pilots than their male counterparts. So, the question begs to be asked “Why are only five per cent of pilots and engineers female?”

The production supports women to build self-esteem and move beyond situations that prevent them from taking the next step, from experiencing social equity, wellness and freedom from bullying, harassment, and circumstances.
We have strong partnerships in place for social impact, including partnerships with:
Lockr.aero, Recreational Aviation Australia, Civil Aviation Safety Authority, QBE Insurance, OzRunways, Dynon Avionics, Velaero, Bose Aviation, Advanced Aviation Training, Matt Hall Racing.

SHORT TERM:
• Knowledge of how to get into the aviation industry and what it entails
• Discussion about gender inequality today
• Information on overcoming issues such as online bullying, workplace harassment, guilt, and fear.
• Key Partners awareness
• Awareness of teaching resources

MEDIUM TERM:
• She Flys teaching resources implemented in Australian classrooms.
• Schools adopting, She Flys to engage younger women to want to learn engineering and help create a path to becoming a pilot.
• Audience continues to contribute to key partner campaigns.
• More aviation schools supporting women to become pilots
• More partnerships between Aviation schools and the wider workforce to look at transferable skills and upskilling.

LONG TERM:
• More women becoming pilots
• Better resources to help manage issues such as online bullying, workplace harassment, guilt, and fear.

We have engaged with a large number of Organisations in the research and fundraising for this series, and we will continue to approach more national organisations to establish formal partnerships around the release of the series. We will use the partnerships that we have to pursue a large social media campaign around the release of the eight part series.

We are creating a strong a community of people who support the social impact and the real-world support for more women to be able to get into aviation. With the support from our partners, we can plan and drive a change a campaign to raise awareness what is possible, and how to start that journey, no matter what age you are.
