Testimony

The climate catastrophe is here already. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report states that:

“Climate change will fundamentally reshape life on Earth in the coming decades… we face species extinction, more widespread disease, unliveable heat, ecosystem collapse, cities menaced by rising seas…”

Unlce Paul and Pabai’s children and their children’s children will be climate refugees. Boigu and Saibai sit at 1.6m above sea level at the highest point, and they currently face the existential threat of losing everything – land, ways of life, culture and identity.

Their case joins a stream of climate litigation cases that are increasingly successful, and seek a global precedent that will save theirs and other developing nations around the world.

In the climate space we are in dire need of big, creatively told stories that capture our imagination, our hearts and that hold the complexity of loss with the possibilities of justice. We believe The Quickening is one such story.

Our impact campaign will be led by Uncle Paul and Pabai and their communities. At this initial stage this film will:
Find pathways to a wide audience
Build support for the Torres Strait in pressuring governments to act in line with the latest climate science (remain below 1.5 degrees)
Support idea for strategic climate litigation as a social change approach
Engage audiences in demanding real and urgent climate action
Expand the understanding and concept of Climate Justice and self determinatio

We will co-design the impact strategy in partnership with the participants in the film.

-More climate litigation cases as tested pathway, and audiences know how to launch their own class actions
-Clear pathways to demand greater action on climate change.

All of the previous national and global partners on the release of This Changes Everything lead by our Impact Lead Alex Kelly. This includes Greenpeace International, Amnesty International Global, 350.org and a range of other high profile key orgs with significant reach. This database includes over 150 key Australian organisations and campaigners and over 50 in the US, 50 in the UK and another 150 across the world. This film reached over 1000 groups through non theatrical screenings and Unquiet has all of these groups within its databases.
