The Nawarddeken Story

There is a need for cultural knowledge to be taught on country to children in remote communities. For too long there has been neglect of appropriate educational pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Young people have been sent away from families and removed from cultural learning. This has created a gap in opportunities and a lack of attention to the specific needs of First Nations youth. Traditional owners and elders in community have the vision and the answers to what a successful education model looks like. Over the last decade they have created a new curriculum and successfully launched three homeland schools. Now further schools are planned as the fist generation get ready to graduate. A positive story of educational success needs to be told and shared.

That Indigenous knowledge systems are incorporated into Australian mainstream school curriculum

The creation of a cinematic feature documentary with the potential for a 6 x half hour series for educational use on a successful bi-cultural model of education that can be integrated across Australian national school curriculum.
