The Last Daughter

We believe better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people begin with a change in the worldview of non-Indigenous Australians. By telling a story, without triggering feelings of blame, guilt or shame, we’ll leave people with a sense of hope and feeling that they have a role to play in creating a better future.

We see a future where Australians walk alongside one another, speaking the language of love.

The Last Daughter project, aims to share Brenda’s story with audiences, lead them to discuss and reflect on their own story, and respond in their own context.

Brenda remains the author of her story. She is the primary driver for sharing the story and truth telling, for a collective healing.

The entire project is operating in the Aboriginal Cultural Framework; The Banaam Framework – under the guidance of Kyle Slabb (Executive Producer and Cultural Advisor).

The Last Daughter is partnered with Australians Together to connect audiences to ongoing meaningful action, impact following the film.

We also have meaningful consultation with the First Nations Departments of Screen Australia, South Australian Film Corporation and the Adelaide Film Festival, as well as experienced mentors for our key team (Producers and Directors).

Brenda will lead audiences in self-reflection and embedding meaningful responses in their communities.

We have partnered with Australians Together as the post film impact partners.

Some of the post-film activities are as follows;
– Audiences can discover and learn more about our shared history and stories.
– Teachers can access curriculum resources to embed First Nations perspectives in their classrooms.
– Schools can access professional learning to enable teachers to better pass on knowledge and stories.
– Individuals can access pathways to take action in their school, workplace or church by hosting a screening, reflecting as a community and responding in their context.
