The 2020’s have seen Australia and the world ravaged by catastrophic fires, devastating floods and a global pandemic. It has been a contemplative time for many of us. Feeling vulnerable as humans gives cause to consider where our food comes from, the future of our children and our planet’s sustainability. Landscapes are desertifying, our waters noxious with chemicals, our soils depleted and in Australia our per capita carbon footprint is 3x the global average, with agriculture producing 13% of our greenhouse gasses.

Meanwhile the increase of intense drought, flooding and temperature variability places enormous pressure on farmers. Rural Australians have higher rates of mental health disorders and less access to services. Extreme weather multiplies this disadvantage. But could the solution be right under our feet?

Regenerative agriculture offers a solution to restoring soil health and biodiversity, sequestering carbon, and making farms more resilient.

Unleash nature’s regenerative abilities to heal our ecosystems, our food systems, and ourselves.

Mass consumer consciousness of the inexorable links between farming practices and the health of our ecosystems, our food, our climate and ourselves.

Enable small-scale farmers to learn about and transition to regenerative agriculture.

Inspire legislators, financiers and insurers to factor biodiversity into decision-making.

Motivate banks, investors and insurers to offer farmers financial incentives for increasing biodiversity and farm resilience.

Regen Studios will leverage existing relationships with outreach partners and aligned brands to achieve our impact goals e.g. Carbon8, Farmer’s Footprint, Regrarians, Climate & Health Alliance, Global Health Film, Kiss the Ground, Gourmet Farmer, Sustainable Table, UNEP, Global Landscapes Forum, WWF, Farmers for Climate Action, National Farmers Federation, Healthy Soils Australia, Soils 4 Life, Ben & Jerry’s, Dr Bronner’s, Faith in Nature, Patagonia and Intrepid Travel.

Rachel is a financial supporter of Sustainable Table, an Australian NFP creating a comprehensive map of regenerative food systems across Australia, which will connect consumers with local regen producers. This is an example of the type of initiatives we will support via the release and our impact campaign. Another example is supporting farmers to transition to regenerative agriculture by channelling funding and other support through partnerships with organisations like Carbon8 and Mad Agriculture.

Consumers to proactively increase awareness of where their food is coming from and what’s going into it – and have the desire to match their purchasing dollars with their ecological values.

Consumers and farmers to continue to educate themselves on regenerative agriculture practices and, more broadly, the climate crisis.

Consumers and farmers to start a dialogue within their own network about the real and hopeful benefits of regenerative agriculture e.g. in conversation and through sharing social media.

Private sector exploration of potential financial incentives and carbon trading opportunities for farmers.

Increase exploration of regenerative agriculture by politicians and policymakers at every level of government, including possible incentives for regenerative farmers.
