While it is becoming increasingly clear that farming holds some of the most powerful solutions to our escalating environmental crises, often forgotten is that behind each farm is a farmer who faces more than their fair share of extreme physical, emotional and spiritual challenges each and every day.
From increasing extreme weather events, deteriorating soil quality, volatile productivity and profitability, rising social isolation and declining mental wellbeing – Aussie farmers are seeking solutions.
This series is about so much more than just farming.
Set against the backdrop of increasing cultural and social polarisation, On The Fence openly explores the real human stories and struggles that sit at the heart of our national transition towards a more resilient, equitable and environmentally balanced food system.
Presenting a stunning, visually rich and compelling journey across our landscapes, this series explores our increasingly disconnected relationship with our environment and offers engaging, cinematic storytelling to reconnect us with the source of all life: mother nature.
Hosted by an affable regenerative evangelist, each episode sees our host, accompanied by a leading voice from the regenerative, indigenous, environmental, or wellbeing community, as they confront the challenging realities faced by farmers all around Australia.
Documented and conducted through open – and sometimes heated – debates in community halls, round table discussions in local pubs as well as visit farmers directly on their properties. Above all we will meet the community on their turf and listen just as much as talk.
Ultimately, we seek to uncover stories of hope in a sea of converging crises and establish common ground with the people who hold the keys to the future health and survival of all Australians.
Can regenerative agriculture transform our food system?
On The Fence offers an invitation for us all to find out.
