FREEDOM IS BEAUTIFUL

Under international law, to which Australia is a signatory, any individual fleeing persecution in their home countries is permitted to seek asylum in Australia without a visa and may arrive by any mode of transport. However, since 2013, the Federal Government has continued to ignore its obligations, consciously inflicting hardship on thousands of innocent and vulnerable people who have fled conflict and persecution in search of safety. Freedom is Beautiful seeks to move, inform and engage the general public, humanising the plight of thousands who have suffered, and continue to suffer the effects of Australia’s hard-line policy, whether they are seeking asylum or on temporary protection visas. The film also aims to ask the bigger questions around what it means to be human; to have rights, to live free from discrimination and limitations, and the role all Australians can play to ensure that Freedom is a Human Right.

Along with the film and the voices of Moz and Farhad, we will use stories, personal connections and creativity to engage ordinary Australians, particularly younger Australians, in a project that reveals the importance of human rights and persuades them to join us in advocating for fair, just and equal treatment for every human being in our society.

Short term-create a movement around the film with funders & allies supporting us to use the film as an advocacy tool for the larger groundswell movement reinforced by a capital city screening tour in early 2024 and other creativeconcepts/events we have identified. We want to make Moz and Farhad known for their activism more than their refugee status.
Medium term- work with our coalition of allies, activists & the general public to create awareness of the current issue, outline the solutions, give tangible actions and mobilise support for asylum seekers and refugees including bringing everyone still trapped on PNG back to the mainland, put those on Temporary Protection Visas on a permanent residency pathway, ending offshore detention, and limiting detention periods onshore.
Long term-calling for an Australian bill of rights. Australia is the only liberal democracy in the world that does not have a charter that explains what people’s basic human rights are and how they can be protected.

Our strategic approach is to create a Freedom Is Beautiful campaign that invites mainstream Australians, allies, community groups, activists and influencers to join our movement to ensure that freedom is a Human Right.

Our core team of Angus, Moz, Farhad and Craig are four trusted activists with integrity who have strong and highly developed networks within the sector and more broadly in the human rights sphere, who are bound together by friendship & a commitment to create a more tolerant and compassionate Australia. Between the four core team members, personal relationships are already in place with almost every major and prominent grass roots organisation plus individuals operating and advocating in the human rights and refugee advocacy space in Australia providing direct, personal and high level access. They will be supported by a small team with a focus on developing creative concepts, producing content for socials and building a grass roots network in collaboration with others.

1. Join the Freedom is Beautiful movement by subscribing to our newsletter, follow us on socials and share our social posts with friends and family.
2. Donate to our Impact Campaign and participate in our fundraising activities, raising vital funds for creative campaign initiatives that support asylum seekers, refugees and marginalised people in the community.
3. Host community screenings of the film followed by a panel discussion that calls for the audience to advocate for just and equal treatment for every human being in our society though website mechanisms
4. Call on the government to immediately through petition and via other initiatives:
a. Bring everyone still trapped on PNG back to the mainland
b. Put everyone currently languishing in limbo on Temporary Protection Visas (TPVs) on the permanent residency pathway & relax the TPV system in the future
c. End Offshore Detention
d. Limit Detention periods onshore
e. Join our call an Australian Bill of Human Rights
