Since European colonisation, Australia has lost approximately 38% of its native forests, totalling around 147 million hectares, or 19% of its land area, with the greatest losses occurring in eucalypt forests.

In the midst of a worsening biodiversity crisis, wildlife extinctions and extensive natural disasters, we as a society are willingly destroying a crucial element of our natural world – our forests – favouring monetary gain over an ecosystem that has protected, healed and provided for humankind for millennia.

Deforestation is the driving issue, but it speaks to the widespread disconnect modern day people have with the natural world at large.

A society that is connected with their natural world and values nature over monetary gain.

Key impact goals:
– Inspire change through an unfiltered broadcast of the vast and devastating native forest logging occurring across Australia (one that will hit audiences beyond the environmental regulars).
– Redefine the mainstream relationship with ‘the Aussie bush’.
– Challenge engrained thinking around consumer culture.
– Advocate for community agency and small-scale change that can make a big difference.

The primary outcomes are to prevent future deforestation, save our mascot ‘Big Spotty’ and get the bigger picture thinking ball rolling on redefining our relationship with the natural world.

– Provide visual evidence and data on what’s happening to our forests.
– Educate the community on where the timber from our forests is going.
– Highlight the failure to protect our unique and threatened species.
– Advocate for the permanent protection of our native forests – Australia Wide.
– Plug in to existing campaigns and organisations so the campaign can continue after the film release.
– Bring communities together and encourage the positive ripple effect that connecting with your local community brings on both an individual and societal level.

We are working extensively with a diverse range of impact partners such as the WWF, BBF, Paddy Pallin and Wilderness Australia to amplify their existing campaigns.

Andy grew up in Ulladulla community and has a strong connection with a diverse pool of relevant stakeholders including Indigenous Elders, business owners, Forestry workers, National Parks rangers, surfers, builders, school teachers and educators. Beyond these people, he has built a strong connection with the natural world that’s been a part of his life since he was a child: a connection that he is now sharing with his own child.

In a nutshell, call the audience to gain awareness on their relationship with the natural world, and the deforestation crisis in Australia.
