Synopsis

In the far north Australian outback lies Delta Downs cattle station. Run by Kurtijar Traditional Owners, this thriving enterprise was Australia’s first cattle station to be fully managed by the traditional people of the region. Quentin Rainbow grew up here under the guidance of his Traditional Owner grandfather learning the ropes, and now stands as the station manager, guiding the next generation of trainees, like Billy.

As excitement builds for the annual rodeo, our film explores Billy’s world at home in town, where there are limited opportunities. By contrast at Delta Downs, he embarks on a journey of transformation into a skilled cattle drover, guided by his Elders alongside other young trainees. Will Billy learn and master all the skills he needs, and how will he fare stepping into the rodeo arena? Facing a host of new challenges, unlocking independence, and a life-changing adventure, “Delta Downs” is a story exploring resilience, young ambition and connection to Country.
