In a world high above the forest floor, where few have dared to tread, married couple Steve Pearce (Photographer) and Dr Jen Sanger (PhD ecologist) create astonishing and unique photographic portraits of giant trees. Captured through daring tree climbing, these images reveal the astonishing scale of giant trees for the first time. But what they love is under threat. Now, these reluctant campaigners are on a quest to save Tasmania’s Grove of Giants: a valley with some of the most notable giant trees on Earth. Giant trees are like something from a fairy-tale, inspiring awe and wonder, but also serve as irreplaceable carbon stores and habitats for endangered species. Yet deforestation, logging and climate change are wiping them out. In Tasmania, a lack of forest protections could see the last giants lost within decades. After their portraits make headlines, like-minded campaigners invite them to photograph threatened giant trees around the world in places such as Canada and Borneo. Once complete, they plan to share these portraits with the world in hopes of turning the tide on native forest logging. It’s a journey of love and adventure at the top of the canopy, but is it enough to save the last giants?
