Balancing Acts charts two intersecting stories – the life of Chinese master acrobat Lu Guang Rong from humble beginnings in China to his remarkable impact on the evolving character of Australian contemporary circus. While contemporary circus in Australia was forging its eccentric and irreverent pathway, the collision with disciplined Chinese training transformed a new generation of circus arts. The timely cultural exchange created a unique legacy that continues to inspire audiences around the globe. As the future of Australian circus is under threat, Lu’s own balance is shattered by the devastating confrontation with terminal Motor Neuron Disease. Underpinning the story of Balancing Acts is the balance of body and mind in the navigation of life’s risks and triumphs.
