Grant Snapshots

The New Joneses

Boundless Earth is a new player in environmental philanthropy and is born out of the vision of Atlassian Co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes to accelerate climate solutions across Australia. In 2022, Boundless Earth had a strong focus on funding initiatives that supported renewable energy sources and also projects that brought households nationwide along on the renewable revolution. This particular focus is what made Tamara Dimattina’s web-series The New Joneses – Season 3: Electrify Everything a perfect fit for this fund.

Through the Boundless Earth grant, the film team have embarked on a mission to use the film in partnership with service providers, councils and businesses to drive homeowners to electrify. The strategy aims to use the film to simplify messaging around electrification of households and providing audiences with a clear and accessible pathway to an all-electric lifestyle. Boundless Earth has amplified the potential impact of the film by assisting with a national communications strategy, allowing for educational resources to be developed to support the film’s messages and work with partners that can provide opportunities for broad distribution.

Funding outputs:
  • Tony Mohr (experienced campaigner) was brought on by Boundless earth to help The New Joneses team to maximise the impact of the funds gained through the grant
  • Clear project alignment: The New Joneses Series 3 ‘electrify everything’ went right to the heart of what Boundless Earth sought to achieve through the granting opportunity, particularly for 2023 as their specific focus was on transitioning Australia to an electric future. The series’ focus on looking at different ways Australians can transition to electricity made it a perfect match.
  • What Boundless hoped to achieve through its funding (Program ongoing)
    • National Comms Strategy (Coordinated comms with partners to clearly communicate existing solutions to households)
    • Production of educational materials
    • Distribution partners
    • Tick off Ten campaign/momentum energy partnership to electrify homes and assist with household efficiency upgrades
