New Resource DocAccess Helps Communities Screen Impactful Documentaries
MEDIA RELEASE
(Sydney, Australia – 9 April, 2025) Documentary Australia is proud to announce the launch of DocAccess, a new resource designed to empower communities and organisations across Australia to host documentary screenings that spark awareness, connection and social change.
DocAccess connects people with more than 50 documentaries that address today’s most pressing social and environmental issues. It equips individuals, community groups, NGOs, councils and organisations with tools and step-by-step guidance on how to organise public screenings.
DocAccess features playlists of Australian documentaries covering 10 impact areas: LGBTQI+; Indigenous; Environment; Disability; The Arts; Culturally & Linguistically Diverse; Human Rights & Social Justice; Health & Wellbeing; Women & Girls; and Youth & Education.
Dr Mitzi Goldman, CEO of Documentary Australia, says DocAccess, created with the support of Screenrights, is designed to remove barriers and expand access to storytelling that matters to all Australians.
“We believe that everyone, no matter where they live, should have access to powerful stories that inform, inspire and unite. DocAccess is about breaking down barriers—whether geographic, financial or logistical—to ensure communities across Australia, including regional towns and remote centres, can use documentary film as a catalyst for connection and change.”
The new resource was recently previewed at a community-led screening of Chef Antonio’s Recipes for Revolution, hosted by Documentary Australia at the iconic Ritz Cinema in Randwick, Sydney.
“This event is a practical example of how DocAccess can enable community-led screenings that bring people together around stories that matter—fostering connection, sparking meaningful conversations, and driving positive change,” said Mitzi.
By streamlining the process of connecting communities with documentary films, DocAccess is set to become a vital tool for changemakers across Australia.
