GASLIGHT is a six part comedy series, based on the true story of two insiders and two outsiders who saw what the big banks, media and government refused to: that the dangerous spin of the gas industry needs to be taken to task.
Meet spin doctor Heidi Gallbladder – she’s on a mission for her client, Jupiter Industries, to bring gas to as much of her country as possible. She’s being guided by her US mentor Trixie Spatula, a chain-smoking booze hound who’s about to fake her own death “for tax purposes,
darling”.
Meanwhile First Nations mum on a mission, Shona Wattage, teams up with unlikely ally, 20- something year old Justin Tangent who can be found sporting an energy drink and cap at all times. Together they’ve seen how the gas cartels have hoodwinked the wider community
and are determined to expose them and, in the process, save their own town.
Heidi is thrust into the hot seat at a real Town Hall meeting, where she faces Shona and Justin who reveal the devastating consequences of a new gas project exploration that is underway. Climate scientists, indigenous leaders, townsfolk, farmers, climate refugees and
activists give Heidi feedback (not scripted characters, real subjects – think THE REHEARSAL), on how she should be speaking to them at the Town Hall, revealing the tactics they are exposed to constantly in this world, and making Heidi think again.
This is a sharp-witted story about money, power & politics with a romantic comedy thrown in for good measure. What should be a propaganda piece for the gas industry slowly descends into a story of Heidi’s own radicalisation (think THANK YOU FOR SMOKING, THIS WAY UP).
