The C Word

THE C WORD is a film about science – the way it is communicated, our trust in scientists, and the lack of understanding of how science is practised. Words like ‘debate’, ‘belief’, ‘opinion’ are commonly used when talking about climate change. This demonstrates a fundamental lack of understanding about science in our society and why ‘alternative facts’ proliferated.

THE C WORD will not rely on the typical images associated with climate change, this is foremost a film about the human condition, greed, and the power of propaganda. We play with images of wealth, excess and our love of consumption, tracking the exponential growth of ‘progress’ – cars, dinner plates and our waistlines.

Viewers will come away shocked at the deliberate obfuscation over the critical decades when we should have been shifting from fossil fuels. The ending will leave them with a sense of mobilisation – that citizens, business and science are now forcing change and they can be part of that change.

THE C WORD will aim to raise awareness and provide audiences with the tools and information necessary to distinguish between fact and fiction. By doing so, we hope to empower audiences to advocate for science-based policies and take meaningful action towards a more sustainable future.

SHORT TERM
Working with partner organisations to host screenings, we will organise panel discussions, workshops, and educational events around the film, bringing together experts, activists, and audiences to discuss the issue of climate change disinformation and its impact on policy and public opinion.

MEDIUM TERM
Education lesson plans and our Screening Discussion Guide will provide resources to help audiences distinguish between real science and misinformation, and equip them with the tools to advocate for evidence-based policy decisions. We encourage audiences to fact-check claims and sources, and promote critical thinking when evaluating information around climate change.

LONG TERM
The film will inspire a powerful realignment of leadership with science, highlighting geopolitical uprisings and strategic alliances now taking place between countries across the globe for climate justice. We intend to use the film to mobilise business leaders and politicians to be part of the change.

THE C WORD is a film our team are passionate about. We believe we have a responsibility as film makers to fact check the stories we’re served up and to advocate for truth. Connection to community comes from being global citizens who care about the fate of our planet.

Having previously worked globally with NGO’s such as Greenpeace, Pew, WWF, and locally in Australia with green and climate groups such as 1 Million Women, Australian Conservation Foundation and Australian Geographic, we have ongoing partnerships we can leverage for our campaign in 2024. Our previously film ‘Blue’ is a case in point for successful impact partnerships.

Overall, the campaign will aim to raise awareness and provide audiences with the tools and information necessary to distinguish between fact and fiction.

The campaign will also promote alternatives to the fossil fuel addictions which must be phased out of our communities if we are to resist continuing levels of warming. Partnering with climate organisations, we will provide information on how each of us can transform our households, exploring the small and large changes we can make in our home to help us move beyond fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas). We will share a blueprint for electrifying our homes, look for the cost savings, emissions savings, energy savings and health benefits and explore the ways to move away from gas (completely) over the next few years.
