One Five Zero

Australia is a world leader in biodiversity loss with global deforestation rates second only to the Amazon. As a result, we are rapidly losing critically important and globally significant flora and fauna nationwide. Did you know the Koala is now endangered? Imagine an Australia without the Koala! It’s about as un-Australian as not liking vegemite! This film follows the local extinction threats in the ecosystems Erchana runs through, from the Cape Peninsula to the Old Growth forests in Victoria and sheds a light on not only the current extinction crisis, but heroes the stories of people doing all they can to regenerate biodiversity, and how we, as a community, can get involved to ensure our wildlife and wild places will be around for generations to come.

Our vision is to see our children’s children still dodging snakes and spotting echidnas on Australian trails in years to come.

Short-term outcomes: Awareness surrounding the extinction threat to Australian at- risk wildlife, an attitude shift towards eco-friendly consumer choices, highlighting volunteer groups within our community and available pathways we can be involved. This film also has the effect of increasing donations and support for our partner charity, The Wilderness Society.
Medium-term outcomes: Although this film sheds light on a devastating environmental crisis, Erchana’s story is ultimately positive, and this film will ideally motivate the audience to explore the wild places close to their home. This will have a ripple effect of connecting the audience to nature and places them in the forests we hope they will grow to love and protect. Hiking, trail running and exploring are important for our mental and physical health and this film aims to encourage more people to throw on some shoes and get a little bit sweaty.
Long-term outcomes: Donations and support towards our partner charity…

At the time of writing this proposal, Erchana is in the process of signing with a commercial management agency (Fordham Company) whose job it is to maximize her profile on a mainstream scale. They will obviously play a large role in negotiating distribution opportunities for this film and avenues that will put this film in front of larger audiences. Landing a popular streaming services is the goal for both parties.
This film is founded on adventure, therefore we have been in conversation with adventure film festivals such as Banff and Gutsy Girls, which tour both Australia and globally. The marketing for this film will be strengthened by the pre-established brands who host the festivals.
As Erchana breaks a WORLD record, the film has global significance and shows off some of Australia’s vast and incredible landscape. Therefore we have an ongoing conversation with tourism groups who are interested in partnering with the film.
In addition, we have partnered with the Wilderness Society…

Making more eco-friendly consumer choices. This includes reducing single use plastics, unnecessary printing of excess paper, investing in damaging energy companies, unsustainable clothing (the list can go on).
Being more aware of local native species and how we, as a community, can help. This can include learning about the food sources of your own local endangered species and what you can do to promote regeneration. For example, growing native trees and shrubs in your yard that both home and feed native wildlife, or keeping house cats in at night so they are not causing damage.
Promoting volunteer and/or environmental groups that are actively working within local communities and how we can get involved.
Highlighting some of Australia’s most incredible parks and wild places for people to explore to and reconnect with nature. To visually show through film the wonderful places Erchana and the film are working hard to protect.
