Tamara Dean: An Artist Responds will explore the work of Tamara Dean through four themes: Rites of Passage, Fragility, Solastagia and Ritual. Narrated by Fenella Kernebone, with guest appearances expected by David Wenham, Sarah Nicholson, Glenn Albrecht, and Alice Matthews, the documentary will be crafted from a reservoir of intimate and personal footage captured by Tamara’s husband, Jonnie Leahy. Tamara Dean: An Artist Responds is directed by the award-winning artist Zanny Begg with a musical score by Damien Lane.
Zanny Begg is a video installation artist based in Bulli, Dharawal Nation, exploring feminism, migration, and ecological responsibility through drawing, film, and spatial practice. Her works reveal hidden histories and have featured in exhibitions like Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere, the 60th Venice Biennale, and biennales in Sharjah, Taipei, Labin, Limerick, Odessa, and Istanbul. She has exhibited at THE NATIONAL 2017, UTOPIA PULSE at Vienna’s Secession, STATECRAFT in Athens, MONA FOMA in Tasmania, and SYDNEY FESTIVAL 2020. Zanny’s accolades include the 2023 Create Australia Visual Arts Fellowship and the 66th Blake Prize Established Artist Residency 2021. She attended Werner Herzog’s Rogue Film School in 2015 and held residencies in Barcelona, Paris, Yogyakarta, Chicago, and Hong Kong. Zanny was a featured filmmaker in the 2024 Venice Bienale.
