Through watching Archer and friends create a seemingly absurd cooking show where a disabled Angus Bull is the star, Cooking for Seamus encourages audiences to reexamine their attitudes to animals traditionally viewed as food. The series aims to cultivate compassion by celebrating the complexity of individual animals, prompting consumers to make choices, and animal owners to consider practices, which are more ethical and kinder. We also hope that this series could be used as a tool to help foster support for animal rescue foundations, particularly those that rescue farm annimals.

By flipping perspectives and putting Seamus in charge – rather than on the plate – this documentary challenges accepted wisdom and asks the viewer to see things anew. Livestock animals are individuals and they have a worth. Cooking for Seamus is an exploration of the complexity of beasts, it hopes to remind audiences of the wonder and awe we all have for animals as children, the comfort we felt knowing the animals were here too. Archer, who stubbornly refused meat even as a child, would never try to tell someone else how to live, but seeing his cow-induced-mirth does inevitably present the audience with a simple question – what would you prefer? Seamus or a burger? The fact that Seamus, Lilyan, Lemon and Danny Boy are rescue animals, saved from neglect and imminent death, adds pathos to their success as cooking show stars. How many other shining stars have remained unrescued and endured pointless lives of sorrow in factory farms?
