Matthew’s debut documentary feature film I’M WANITA played at more than 20 international film festivals, was a critical success and won the award for Best Music Documentary at Raindance; the DAF Award for Best Australian Documentary at Sydney Film Festival and Best Feature Documentary at AIDC as well as being nominated for a raft of awards including AACTA nomination for Best Documentary Feature and Australian Directors Guild nomination for Best Direction in a Documentary Feature. I’M WANITA was the culmination of 5 years of documenting the life of Wanita Bahtiyar which began as the short film HEART OF THE QUEEN which won Best Australian Short at the Antenna Documentary Festival. Before directing his own films Matthew was an Australian film and television editor for over fifteen years with more than 30 feature and television credits. As an editor Matthew has received an Australian Screen Editors Award for Best Editing: Factual and a Walkley Award for his work on ABC’s Foreign Correspondent. Matthew joined People Productions in 2021 and is developing several feature documentary projects on the slate.

Carolina Sorensen is a producer who has been working in the Australian documentary and entertainment industry for more than 15 years. She began working in non-scripted film at Blink TV and continues to work with them across their varied slate. In 2017 Carolina co-founded production company People Productions to produce #WELIVEHERE2017, an impact and art campaign in collaboration with the public housing residents of Sydney’s Waterloo. The subsequent documentary THERE GOES OUR NEIGHBOURHOOD, directed by People Prouduction co-founder Clare Lewis, aired on ABC in 2018. People Production’s second film I’M WANITA was directed by first time feature director Matthew Walker and had its World Premier at 2021 Hot Docs International Documentary Festival, has been programmed in more than 20 international film festivals and won awards at Raindance, Sydney Film Festival and AIDC.
