Marliya follows a dynamic First Nations youth choir of young women from Cairns as they reclaim culture, challenge injustice, and inspire change through powerful music. Formed through a groundbreaking collaboration, they navigate personal and collective struggles that test their identity and resilience. As they prepare for their international debut in London, their journey becomes a stirring testament to unity, empowerment, and the unstoppable rise of the next generation of Indigenous female leaders.
Stephen Page is an accomplished director in both screen and dance. He’s a Nunukal/Ngugi Man of Qandamooka Peoples and Munaldjali Man of Yugambeh Nation South East Queensland.
From 1991 – 2023 he was Artistic Director of Bangarra Dance Theatre and has developed a signature body of works that have become milestones in Australian performing arts, culminating over 27 works for the company.
His first full-length film SPEAR (2015) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival before screening at various arts festivals around Australia. He has also directed the chapter SAND in the feature film THE TURNING (2013) and choreographed the feature films BRAN NUE DAE (2009) and THE SAPPHIRES (2011).
In 2017, Stephen was honoured with the Australia Council Dance Award for significant contributions to the cultural and artistic fabric of the nation, and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO).
