Synopsis
Cocoon follows Bridge It, a Melbourne-based charity with a vision to end youth homelessness, as they take on an audacious challenge to transform a derelict apartment block into a supportive home with no government support and no money.
After delivering their first project, Cocoon 1, largely pro bono, they set their sights even higher. This time, they attempt a $2 million renovation, relying entirely on goodwill, partnerships and community to bring Cocoon 2 to life within an ambitious four-month timeframe.
The series steps inside the relationships powering the build, capturing the pressure, trade-offs and real-time decisions behind Cocoon 2. As timelines tighten and risks mount, the team must navigate what it really takes to run a charity, mobilise a community, and deliver housing in a system that isn’t set up to make it easy.
At its core, Cocoon is about more than construction. It’s about creating safe, stable homes for young women and gender diverse people experiencing homelessness, and asking whether a different model, driven by community can help change the system.
Story
The series follows a high-stakes, real-time build: a $2 million renovation delivered with no budget over four months, where success depends on trust, partnerships and community.
At the centre are twin sisters Carla Raynes, CEO and Founder of Bridge It, and Jenna Wilson, Partnerships and Growth Manager. Carla’s vision is to mobilise business as a force for social change, while Jenna secures the relationships to make it possible. Their dynamic anchors the series, revealing the unique characters behind Cocoon.
As pressure builds, the story expands through Rotem, CEO of builder Cobild, and Ryan, Bridge It’s Operations Manager, navigating the realities of delivering the build.
At its emotional core is Tisha, an architect with lived experience of domestic violence, grounding the project in its deeper purpose.
Together, these journeys capture the urgency, complexity and hope of radical collaboration within Australia’s housing system.
