On the back of his trusty horse, young Tully returns to his hometown of Muswellbrook on a mission to understand the relationship between social change and community as Australia stares down the barrel of a movement away from coal in the year 2025. Undertaking a dust-riddled pilgrimage down the main street and on the backroads, Tully questions the contrast of a community so engaged with the processes of coal yet disconnected from future discussion. By depoliticising the mining issue and using a human-centric approach, Muswellbrook is seen as a microcosm for the timeless tale of corporate negligence, political short-sightedness and communal exploitation. A tale that extends far beyond coal – a global reflection on the cost of ‘progress’ and the communities left behind.
