Regenerating Australia

The evens of the last three years in have transformed our country forever. The combination of cataclysmic fires and a global pandemic has left many Australian citizens and communities deeply traumatized.

Regenerating Australia was initially mobilised as a response to the bushfires and the need to avert ‘build back better’ interventions that would cause further destruction to nature and accelerate climate change. While the national (and global) focus has swiftly shifted from bushfire recovery to the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to engage the public with a unified, positive, compelling vision and narrative for the future has never been more acute.

Emerging out of crisis, Regenerate Australia is piloting replicable and scalable pathways for communities to lead Australia’s transition to a regenerative future.

In the final ‘Funding & Implementing Solutions’ phase of the project, WWF will work with major partners, donors and investors and government agencies to develop a blended ‘regeneration fund’ for impactful, innovative, scalable and exciting solutions that will help achieve this vision.

Regen Studios will continue working with WWF, project partners and the selected pilot communities to document project implementation and amplify the outcomes.

The final phase of the project will identify and nurture solutions through the Regenerate Australia Impactio funding challenge, leveraging $2 million from WWF’s bushfire funds to enable a much bigger (e.g. $20million ‘Regeneration Fund’) to bring some of these transformative solutions to life, hand-in-hand with frontline communities.

We will leverage the film in pursuit of the broader Regenerate Australia project goals, providing a range of touchpoints and pathways to action for target audiences that include bushfire affected communities, key constituent groups, local leaders and stakeholders in the private and public sectors. Strategy and messaging are being developed collaboratively with partners and advisors, tapping into WWF and 2040’s large network of researchers, experts and community engagement specialists.

Regenerate Australia leverages storytelling, strategic partnerships and targeted community outreach to harness an irresistible vision for a safer, fairer, more resilient nation and create a powerful model for realising community-driven solutions. The key objective is to show audiences that a better Australia is within reach by shining a spotlight on the inspiring communities that are already taking matters into their own hands.

The narrative of the ‘Regenerate Australia’ short film brings to life the insights from the community listening campaign to create a compelling and positive vision for the path forward. Along with thought leadership reports and other creative assets, the film will be utlised as a key engagement tool to motivate the community, private and public sector partners and impact investors.
