Set against climate volatility, rising food insecurity and declining human and environmental wellbeing, The Farmacy is a 6-part documentary series and impact initiative investigating whether regenerative philosophy could help reshape Australia’s food future.
Regenerative farmer Dusty Elsom and his wife Nell begin with a simple but far-reaching question: if regenerative farming can restore landscapes, could the same principles transform the systems that produce food? Seeking answers, Dusty travels Australia meeting farmers, First Nations knowledge holders, scientists, nutritionists, educators, retailers and policymakers to test regeneration from every angle. He explores whether it can feed Australia, support viable farm businesses and overcome barriers created by supply chains, consumer culture and public policy.
Meanwhile, Nell investigates how the same principles could reshape backyards, schools, neighbourhoods and public spaces, revealing that regeneration extends well beyond agriculture. As the investigation unfolds, Dusty and Nell discover that many of the solutions already exist. The challenge is that they remain disconnected across sectors that rarely work together.
Then comes a setback. He learns the formal consultation period for Australia’s new National Food Security Strategy has already closed. Rather than accept the missed opportunity, he works alongside established food systems organisations to bring together farmers, First Nations leaders, researchers, educators, health professionals, policymakers and community organisations to explore a more connected vision for Australia’s food future.
The series culminates in this national conversation, transforming The Farmacy from an investigation into a catalyst for collaboration.
Beyond the screen, the project continues as an impact initiative connecting audiences with organisations, practical actions and opportunities to help create healthier food systems, healthier communities and a more regenerative future.
