Moblands addresses the urgent need for land management practices that are both sustainable and just. It exposes the hidden legacy of Aboriginal contribution to the cattle industry while challenging the systemic erasure of Indigenous knowledge from national narratives around agriculture and climate policy. At a time when the planet is facing ecological collapse, the film reframes Indigenous land care as a viable, proven, and powerful solution.

It also responds to a cultural and emotional need; to tell stories that centre strength, humour, and humanity, not just trauma. By documenting the lived experiences of Aboriginal people reclaiming the narrative on their own terms, Moblands offers a rare and hopeful window into an unrecognised movement led by communities, too often left out of mainstream conversations.

Our impact vision is to radically reframe how Australia and the world sees the cattle industry, Indigenous knowledge, and climate leadership. Moblands seeks to elevate Aboriginal land managers as climate innovators, challenge extractive narratives, and strengthen community-led control of cultural and economic futures.

We want to build emotional and practical understanding that land stewardship rooted in 80,000 years of knowledge is not just valid, it’s essential. Through public engagement, screenings, and targeted campaigns, Moblands will connect audiences with tangible steps toward justice and sustainability, from policy shifts to philanthropic investment and community partnerships.

Ultimately, this project aims to support land back movements, amplify Aboriginal sovereignty, and inspire national pride in Indigenous ecological leadership, not just as a moral imperative, but as a strategic one.

We aim to shift narratives, behaviours, and policy.

At the individual level, we want audiences to understand that climate justice must include land justice, and that Aboriginal people hold solutions we can’t afford to ignore.
For organisations, especially in agriculture and conservation, Moblands can influence hiring practices, funding priorities, and partnership models with Indigenous-run operations.
Community impact will be grounded in connection, healing, and pride, particularly for Aboriginal youth and workers in rural sectors.
Systems change involves influencing policy and funding allocation for regenerative land management, prioritising Indigenous-led knowledge systems.
We also aim to rewire mainstream narratives around Indigenous labour, sustainability, and leadership.

As a Kalkatungu, Australian South Sea Islander and Scottish documentary producer, the director has deep personal, cultural, and professional ties to the communities represented. Moblands is grounded in lived experience, the filmmaker’s family rode, worked stations, and survived the impacts of colonisation, however was left in a place of disconnection, and erased history.

The project his developing through sustained consultation, travel, and yarning across the country. We are working with individuals and communities who have invited us into their worlds, not just as filmmakers, but as kin and collaborators. Every element of the project is approached with cultural safety, respect, and process at its heart. Access is ongoing, earned, and actively nurtured through genuine relationships, not extractive permissions.

The calls to action will be co-designed with the communities who own this story, ensuring alignment with their priorities, sovereignty, and pace. Moblands is not about prescribing solutions, it’s about platforming leadership and building pathways for meaningful allyship and systemic accountability.

Broadly, the film advocates for policy and funding shifts that recognise and resource Indigenous-led land management. It challenges extractive systems and calls for reparative frameworks, but without placing the burden of systemic change back on communities who have carried that weight for generations.

Audiences will be invited to reflect on their role in this system, and to act in solidarity by supporting, amplifying, and resourcing community-led initiatives. Impact strategies will include partnerships with Indigenous organisations to lead tailored calls for change, from land access to investment in sustainable Aboriginal-run stations.
