Hazmir, a devout Muslim, has recently been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a rare and progressive neurological condition that causes muscle weakness, loss of mobility, and, eventually, impacts speech, swallowing, and breathing. This documentary intimately follows Hazmir as he faces the realities of living with a terminal illness while striving to maintain his cultural and religious identity. As a husband to Azni and father to 10-year-old Ameera, Hazmir’s journey is not only his own but shared deeply with his family. The film captures the progression of his symptoms-from muscle weakness and fatigue to increasing difficulty with everyday tasks and communication. Despite these challenges, Hazmir’s determination to document his experience is driven by a profound desire to leave a legacy of hope and understanding for his loved ones and others affected by MND. Through candid interviews and observational footage, the documentary explores the emotional, physical, and spiritual impact of MND on Hazmir and his family, highlighting moments of resilience, vulnerability, and faith. The story also reflects the vital role of support networks like MND Victoria, whose ethos, “Until there’s a cure, there’s care,” is brought to life through the practical and emotional assistance they provide-ranging from equipment loans to community connections and counselling. By following Hazmir’s journey, the film offers an unflinching look at the complexities of terminal illness, the importance of compassionate care, and the enduring strength found in family and faith. Ultimately, this documentary serves as both a tribute to Hazmir’s courage and a call to action for greater awareness, empathy, and support for those living with MND, honouring his wish to help others even in the face of life’s most profound challenges.
