Australian Giant Cuttlefish – spectacular, fascinating, very groovy, marine wildlife rock stars! Help us bring their unique story of wonder, vulnerability and hope to the world.
3 hearts, 8 arms, a donut shaped super-sized brain, skin that can change colour and texture, a short lifespan with only 1 shot at procreation before you die – what’s not to love?
The Electric Love Fest Project is a feature film documentary with a planned multi-faceted ocean conservation impact campaign. Framing the story around the unique, once a year, one place only, mass mating aggregation of South Australia’s amazing Spencer Gulf Giant Cuttlefish clan, this will be a wildlife documentary like no other. Spectacular underwater footage, lively narration, a groovy disco soundtrack and entertaining and engaging animations/graphics, all helping to tell their unique story – who they are, what they do, how they do it, what threats do they face, how we humans can support them to survive and thrive.
Adding to the urgency of sharing their story, the devastation of the 2026 season which saw only an estimated 2000 GCs appear where usually there are tens of thousands, some years, hundreds of thousands. This unique GC population believed to have fallen victim to South Australia’s toxic algal bloom outbreak. The deadly consequences of Climate Change factors in real time.
We have self-funded development so far, including filming extensively during the 2025 season capturing loads of incredible footage. Our plan was to film again this year, but filming and other activities in the breeding area were banned in an effort to try and protect those GCs that did gather. The stakes for these very special Australian animals have never been higher.
We already felt privileged and fortunate to have extensively captured footage across last year’s season. Now that footage becomes even more important and our passion and commitment to tell the Electric Love Fest story stronger than ever.
