2025 – the 17th year since Documentary Australia was founded and one we are proud of, but acutely aware of the challenges that it brought.
We share our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support, contribution and commitment to our work at Documentary Australia. Your kindness and generosity give us hope and optimism for the future of documentary. With your help, we’ll continue to build our audiences and community by championing stories that spark empathy, challenge perspectives and drive meaningful change.
Here is a short wrap of the work we did in 2025.
Impact Producer Program
The third and final year of the Impact Producer Program has now concluded. In 2025, the program continued to train the next generation of Impact Producers, empowering them on the path to creating lasting change through documentary. Here are some reflections on eight months of learning and professional development with our newest Impact Producer Program alumni Matisse and Jess.
Environmental Accelerator
The third and final year of the Environmental Accelerator has also now concluded, sharing and supporting crucial stories to inspire climate action. Read more about the important stories we’ve supported this year, along with co-presenting the inaugural Climate Story Lab Australia.
Festivals and DA-supported films
Congratulations to all the Documentary Australia-supported films that performed fantastically well on the festival circuit and in cinemas this year, including Songs Inside, which won the Documentary Australia Award at the 2025 Sydney Film Festival.
2026 will be a year of bold ambition for us at Documentary Australia. We will focus on young people, women and girls, and regional accessibility to documentary by creating fresh opportunities to amplify voices and illuminate issues that demand attention. With your continued support, we will push boundaries, ignite larger conversations and support many new, diverse and impactful documentaries.
