In 2014, Ravi Chand found out his Grandma who he thought had passed away, was still alive 24 years later and waiting for him in the same house in Fiji.
The separation triggered a week from his 12th birthday, when Ravi’s mother was killed in a car accident on the way to pick her children from school.
Growing up ashamed of his culture Ravi desperately tried to assimilate into Australia. He did assimilate; at the cost of ostracising his own.
This is how his Grandma reconnected him back to the magic of his culture, language and self. It set him on a path to discover Australian Indian history dating back 4000 years.
