Whistle

With most people today, especially youth, feeling increasingly disconnected from society and struggling with self doubt and lack of purpose, a sense of community is more important than ever. Competitive whistling is filled with incredibly talented musicians who come from all over the world, each having gone to great lengths to find a passionate community of like-minded people where they could fully express themselves. Through our central characters’ journeys audiences will find a new appreciation for the gifts the creative arts can bring to your life – a sense of belonging and accomplishment, and an outlet for self expression. This is a film about the importance of finding your community, aiming to inspire audiences to nurture their passions and embrace their uniqueness by showing that with enough passion and dedication, any hobby can be elevated into a fine art form.

This film will bring awareness to the importance of the pursuit of artistic interests and the communities that form around these shared passions. We hope this film resonates with anyone who feels disconnected and unfulfilled, to show how being a part of these communities can open the door to following your passion, and finding purpose and acceptance. This has the potential to inspire viewers of all generations to seek out the joy of expressing their creativity together.

Short-term
This documentary’s joyful and lighthearted tone is designed to inspire positive feelings in audiences about embracing your own uniqueness. We hope the film inspires parents and schools to be more encouraging of pursuing unique interests, and increasing the understanding that finding a community with a shared passion for any hobby can lead to increased confidence.

Medium-term
Ideally the film will lead to increased engagement with existing community events, classes, and opportunities to perform, as well as begin new initiatives to develop a more diverse range of options for people to get involved in. Ideally we would like to see increased participation rates particularly with youth audiences.

Long-term
As a culmination of the short and medium term goals, we hope to see a general shift in attitudes towards indulging in creative pursuits, and the flow on effect this will have on community funding, engagement rates, and availability of resources.

We have the full support of many of the major players in the whistling community, including the organisers of the three most prestigious global whistling competitions – the Masters of Musical Whistling, the World Whistlers’ Convention, and the Global Whistling Championship. Many of the best whistlers in the world have signed on to the documentary and have provided their invaluable expertise in understanding the community and connecting us with other members.
