Bondi

This film addresses the lived experience of Australia’s Jewish community, and how the surging antisemitism that began on October 7, 2023 exploded on December 14, 2025. While other programs have told the story of the Bondi massacre, none has properly explained the whole story of how our social cohesion collapsed such that 15 people lost their lives in the worst terror attack in modern Australian history.

We hope that by watching ‘Bondi’, ordinary Australians will gain insight into the lived experience of Australia’s Jewish community, to understand the fear, isolation, cancelling, doxxing, verballing, and firebombing of our places and people who appear to be held responsible for a war in the faraway Middle East.

This is the arc of antisemitism that ended with a bloodbath at Bondi Beach, taking 15 lives, destroying families and traumatising an entire community.

By doing so we hope this will help us heal and help Australia rebuild our social cohesion, which has become so fractured and frayed since October 7, 2023.

We intend to use the film as the catalyst for the impact campaign to help make sure the hate doesn’t have a home in Australia.

A fractured society hurts us all. None of us is truly safe until ALL of us feel safe.

We hope the feature documentary ‘BONDI’, followed by this impact campaign, will trigger discussion, debate, understanding, healing and social cohesion.

We seek to enhance our social cohesion by hearing the ‘other’. We hope that by walking in our shoes, ordinary Australians will be better able to understand our lived experience which will go a long way towards ensuing this never happens again, not to Jews or any Australian community.

This started with words and chants. And it ended in blood. We hope to spotlight how hate speech ends with bloodshed.

‘Bondi’ will show across 90 spine-chilling minutes how and why that happened.

We are deeply embedded inside the Jewish community. Dan Goldberg was editor of the Australian Jewish News 25 years ago (2002-2007), and then Australian correspondent for newspapers in London, New York and Tel Aviv and therefore has remained connected to the Jewish community. Most, but not all, of our team are Jewish and have connections inside the community. We are also well-known to the Chabad of Bondi community via their rabbis.
All up, our access is vast; we have already spoken to more than 100 people, and have secured a sea of archive material – from Bondi and before Bondi – much of which has never been seen or heard before.
We are committed to ensuring this story is told with sensitivity and authenticity. In addition we have gone to great lengths to ensure a professional duty of care plan is not only in place but is activated and used – both by our contributors as well as our crew.

We have built a huge impact campaign to follow the film. The film is the catalyst for the campaign. In short, the film and the campaign calls on people to ‘Stop The Hate, Mate.’ On a more practical level we will be arming people with the tools and knowledge to change hearts and minds, one at a time. It is the moveable middle we seek to focus on.
