Western Australia. A region known for its expansive coastlines and untamed seas. The Right, one of the world’s most perilous waves, shrouded in secrecy is famous for its powerful and unpredictable nature. Located in the south west of WA in an area with limited access, surfers brave enough to tackle The Right must be highly skilled and well-prepared for the risky conditions it presents.
Introducing bad-ass bodyboarder Rio Clark!
Surfing this wave has been a dream of Rio’s ever since she began to hear whispers of this wave among the professional surfing community. Herself drifting away from her deep passion to be in the water after giving her everything to creating a steady income and giving birth to her child. With the ups and downs of raising a child by herself, Rio found herself struggling emotionally so a friend put her in touch with a local surfing mums group, as the group coordinator Rio learned the value of strength based leadership within a community of like minded women.
In front of role models and students, Rio released her dream and as the words left her lips for the very first time, that very breath released what lay dormant inside her for so long. She was met with nothing but smiles and admiration, that was the day her dream turned into her destiny.
After dedicating 7 years of researching, training, mentoring and raising a child, she is now ready to dive into uncharted territory and put herself against nature’s ultimate challenge. Rio will be the first woman to ever bodyboard “The Right”, but it won’t come easy.
With the unwavering support of her friends, professional peers and doctors, Rio has overcome the daily symptoms of a brain injury she sustained in early 2023. With this only an obstacle, she adjusted her self-expectations throughout her injury recovery and now continues on with her training fully healed.
“I’m so grateful I have made a full recovery, my life is beautiful and I want to ride the wave I have loved for so long.”
