Join us for a full-day Advancing Impact workshop presented by Documentary Australia.
This workshop is open to emerging, mid, or advanced screen practitioners interested in understanding how documentary storytelling can be used to create social impact.
Documentary Australia’s Advancing Impact workshop is designed to give screen practitioners an understanding of using impact campaigns to enhance audience reach and engagement, as well as the social outcomes of their documentary projects.
Key areas of learning include impact campaign strategy, impact campaign activities, partnership development, strategic campaign communications, and philanthropic fundraising. Using case studies to model different approaches, participants will discover various ways to shape their project’s impact strategies.
Participants will also have the opportunity to engage directly with Documentary Australia’s leadership team, who bring extensive experience in impact strategy and philanthropic engagement.
Who Should Attend
Western Australian screen practitioners at early, mid or advanced stages of their careers who are passionate about creating change through documentary storytelling.

Morning and afternoon refreshments provided. Lunch to be purchased or brought by participants. There is a café available on-site.

SPEAKERS
Dr Mitzi Goldman – Chief Executive Officer
Mitzi is a documentary director, producer, editor, and educator with over 35 years in the industry. Mitzi co-founded and is the CEO of Documentary Australia, which has developed a new paradigm for funding and outreach of social impact documentary films. Alongside her production career, she has worked in the academy teaching documentary production and screen studies at Murdoch University, WA, before being employed as co-head of the documentary department at the National Film and Television School (AFTRS) for six years. Mitzi holds a PhD in Cultural Studies and has served on juries for film festivals in Australia, Iran, and China.
Stephanie King – Impact Director
Stephanie (she/her) is Documentary Australia’s Impact Director. She is a filmmaker and impact producer whose work includes Undermined – Tales From the Kimberley, Voices of the River, and Martuwarra: River of Life. Her projects have won multiple awards and influenced public policy. She has consulted on documentaries for Al Jazeera, SBS, and Why Not Theatre.
Sharlene Dadd – Head of Partnerships & Communications
Sharlene brings experience as Head of Impact Partnerships at WWF-Australia and has had previous roles in the disability, agriculture, wine and tourism sectors. Her strengths lie in setting and achieving strategic objectives, generating and growing lasting relationships for sustainable financial and in-kind support. She holds a BA from the University of Sydney and speaks French and Indonesian. Her work is driven by a belief in the power of storytelling to inspire change.
