Darby “In a Life Time”.

Darby McCarthy has played an important role in Queensland’s unique ‘Murri court’ system designed to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander offenders to make changes in their lives. The respect of Uncle Darby McCarthy is evident each time he sat in the Toowoomba Murri Court,’ the local press recently reported.
Darby, through his post racing career, become a mentor for many young people wanting to attain a position in the racing industry and beyond supporting their endeavors through incentive and educational programs specifically initialed by Darby McCarthy, who was an accredited adviser to the University of Southern Queensland and has an honorary doctorate for this work
Racing Victoria has a scholarship for young Indigenous horsemen and women in Darby McCarthy honour.
Throughout Darby Lifetime, he has been the advocate for many women in sport, Cathy Freeman being one of whom Darby mentored with knowledge he gained on the national and international scene in his extraordinary career.

Darby life is mixed with triumphs then there were scandals, disasters and injustices that plagued his racing career and reputation, and indeed nearly cost him his life.
Yet here is the twist. To return from those dark places to become a role model to young indigenous people nationally – not just to aspiring jockeys and athletes – is a unique story. ‘Darby does his part in advancing the breakdown of barriers between Aboriginal people and white Australians,

Darby McCarthy full involvement and cooperation had been sort and received from Darby and his Family, with further commitment and involvement of other professional indigenous film makes that have joined this project to create a coalition of production support and indigenous creativity.
The Darby McCarthy PROJECT incorporates professional film industry personal and industry best practice to mentor interested indigenous personal to work and learn and be a part of the production process in the making of this documentary.

Darby McCarthy wish was for this project to be positive and inspirational for all who are able to see and experience his life journey.
Darby wanted his achievements and short comings, his highs and lows, battles and victories and dedication to his people as an Aboriginal man, be documented.
Darby knowledge and experience he willingly passed on to the younger generations and through this project his wish is that his story reach out to the largest possible audience.
To produce this project in Aboriginal language as well as French (which Darby spoke) and English he hope to achieve a strong cross section of audience potential.
The Darby McCarthy PROJECT “In a Life Time” (Working Title), is a very positive, inspirational international story.
A story which shows what a person can achieve when faced with seeming insurmountable odds, but with grit and determination and self-belief they can achieve possibly far more than they could have ever imagined.
