It was to be the pinnacle of his career. To much fanfare, Lebanese-Australian visual artist Khaled Sabsabi was announced as Australia’s representative at the Venice Biennale, also known as ‘the Olympics of the art world’.
Five days later, his appointment was publicly revoked by government body Creative Australia, triggering a public outcry.
Amid the upheaval, Khaled – soft-spoken and thoughtful – retreats into his practice to make The Work.
Uncertain where it will end up, Khaled takes us from the vibrant streets of Western Sydney, through the hustle of Bangkok and the bustle of battle-scarred Beirut all the way to the City of Canals as he creates a history-making artwork on his ROAD TO VENICE.
