Left Write Hook

Organisational Change Impact Snapshot

ISSUE AREA: WOMEN & GIRLS, HEALTH & WELLBEING

Left Write Hook is a powerful documentary that has achieved significant impact by centring lived experience and childhood sexual abuse survivor agency through a trauma-informed, participatory approach.

Premiering at MIFF 2024 as the inaugural ‘Premiere with Purpose’, the documentary rolled out across cinemas, community screenings, conferences, and global platforms including Netflix and Kanopy.

Led by Documentary Australia Impact Producer Program alumna Andrea Foxworthy, the impact campaign was shaped by early sector research and engagement with more than 300 organisations, including impact partner Blue Knot Foundation.

Together with key mentors, the team created a focused impact strategy prioritising survivor empowerment, cross-sector engagement across health, justice, child protection and mental health, and survivor-led recovery models.

Now used by the Left Write Hook charity to engage program participants, partners and funders – teaming film Q&As with workshops or trauma recovery program delivery – the film’s most enduring impact has been awareness-building and the validation of survivor voices and their meaningful influence on sector practice and systems change.
