Philippa Bateman

An award-winning director and producer, Philippa Bateman’s 30 year career in feature films spans documentary and scripted. Her film about Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter, WASH MY SOUL IN THE RIVER’S FLOW won the Best Feature Documentary 2023 at AIDC and it was the top documentary on the Guardian’s Ten Best Films of 2022. Bateman was also nominated for Best Director – Debut Feature by the Australian Director’s Guild (ADG) in 2022. A recipient of the She-Doc Fellowship (2019), Bateman spent 3 months embedded at Alex Gibney’s company Jigsaw Productions in New York, the most successful non-fiction company in North America. Prior to working in Documentary, Bateman was a creative producer who had deals with US studios United Artists and Universal. She was the CEO and co-owner of privately financed production company April Films which produced Jindabyne (Laura Linney, Gabriel Byrne). As CEO of April Films, she won the SPA Independent Producer of the Year Award (2006).
