Regenerating Australia

Organisational Change Impact Snapshot

ISSUE AREA: ENVIRONMENT

As we contend with increasingly volatile weather events and missed environmental targets, it’s clear we need new environmental solutions and fast.

Regenerating Australia, an accessible 17-minute documentary from the same powerhouse team behind That Sugar Film and 2040, is leading the charge with a call for a shift in focus from sustainability – minimising the harm caused by human activity – to proactive regenerative solutions.

It is already working. The film has been used as a tool by WWF-Australia to launch a $2 million ‘solutions fund’ to support community-led regenerative projects and build a thriving Regeneration Network. WWF-Australia’s Innovate to Regenerate Fund, launched in conjunction with the film’s release in 2022, received over 150 applications. Around 20% of the projects will receive funding and capability support from WWF, while others will be supported through capacity building and networking programs, to bring solutions in the film to life.

The film is also being used by corporates to consider how they can structure their strategic plans, be a part of the transition to regenerative practices, and use their expertise and skills to accelerate change.

The impact has been as widespread as it has rapid. Regenerating Australia has been screened in cinemas and in 60 locations across Australia, with 750 requests from communities, organisations, schools and businesses eager to host their own screening of the film. The film has been released through community screenings, community workshops, school engagement, online screenings and Local Learning Labs, and provides a pathway for audiences to ‘start regenerating’ via the The Regenerators web platform.

Regenerating Australia

“Inspired by the evocative vision of Australia laid out in the Regenerating Australia film, we are deploying $2 million to support solutions that can reverse environmental damage and create a positive impact for people and the planet.”
