WORLDS (working title) is an immersive audiovisual experience where art, science, and music collide to explore naturally occurring patterns and the forces of nature in intimate detail. From the origin of the universe, through the building blocks of nature to uncover the patterns and connections that bind us and the natural world together.

All imagery is captured and produced without the use of any CGI. As these abstract images are contrasted against cinematography of the natural world - a reflective and philosophical perspective is created, and the connection between force, nature, and the universe is revealed.

At a time when the importance of science and nature is being undermined across the globe and is under threat, this meeting of art, science, and music creates wonder and insights into the world and the universe that is vital. This film shows why that now more than ever, is the time for each of us to rediscover our relationship to nature.

Issue Summary

A short summary of the issue the documentary is addressing

The incredible resources of planet earth are finite, yet we live in a society of constant growth and a culture of continuous consumption. Our civilization is causing an enormous amount of stress on the natural world, and signs are pointing to a collapsing environment.

Additionally, the importance of science is being undermined and questioned on the world stage, hindering the ability to address and resolve these dire issues.

Our ability to influence the earth's environment grows exponentially as our population increases and technology improves. Without conscious effort to optimize our use of natural resources, we will continue to cause massive disruption to nature and create dire circumstances for many more humans.

What is the impact vision statement of the documentary?

Our vision is to tell the incredible story of the universe, our planet, and the connection between all life. Through art, science, and education, we are seeking to create a positive and harmonious relationship between civilization and earth.

WORLDS takes a step back and reconsiders the big picture and views nature as an organism that we humans are one with. Revealing why that now more than ever, is the time for each of us to understand and be accountable for our relationship with nature.

What outcomes does the project hope to achieve from making this documentary?

This meeting of science and art in WORLDS attempts to address three key societal issues.

1. Science is generally perceived as boring or lame.
2. There is a large percentage of the population that is not adequately scientifically literate.
3. There is a disconnection between humans and nature in the modern world.

By addressing these issues, we hope to shift the conversation and perception around these global environmental issues. To allow audiences to understand their connection to it, and our responsibility as creatures of earth.

This film does not claim to have all the answers, but it will show science as the tool we use to illuminate a universe that we are beginning to understand. And a tool that can combat challenging global circumstances.

How will this documentary achieve its outcomes?

First, by portraying science and nature as incredible as magic. Presented through an entertaining and engaging format that has the potential to find a place in popular culture. Featuring beautiful and mesmerizing imagery that has rarely been seen before, and framing science as the means to uncover the secrets of the natural world.

Second, by showcasing simple and amazing scientific experiments and facts that have the potential to seed curiosity and inspire people to dig a little deeper. Ask the audience to question their understanding of natural forces.

Third, by showing how each force of nature plays a part in the big picture. How they fit together and create a system that we’re a part of, and is also part of us. Revealing the relationship between the forces of the universe and their resulting natural phenomena - including life, humans, and consciousness. Concluding that we are one with the natural world, and the future of earth and humanity is bound together.

How will partnerships with this project help inform the project development?

We have secured multiple partners, including Screen Australia, Melbourne Museum, and RMIT University.

Screen Australia have approved our project for funding under the Producers Program in December 2019, and are an official partner on the film.

Melbourne Museum will be screening an immersive version of the film during National Science Week 2020, as well as offering us support and access to their scientific experts and samples. The Museum will continue to play the documentary to student groups visiting the Museum throughout the rest of 2020.

RMIT University will be providing us in-kind support, as well as access to staff, students, and resources to carry out science experiments. They will also be using the documentary content in their outreach and educational programs.

Audience Engagement and Social Impact

What actions does this project hope for its viewers after seeing this film?

I hope audiences find a perspective they have not yet considered, or not experienced for some time - and reignite their love and appreciation for nature and the universe.

I believe this passion within is the key for citizens to make everyday decisions that factor in the well-being of civilization and the planet as one.

Measurement and Evaluation

What is the projects indicators for success?

The biggest indication of this films impact will be our ability to bring it in front of audiences nationally and internationally - though film festivals, exhibitions, education programs, screenings, and installations.

Being a multi-platform project, audiences from all demographics will access this program in a variety of formats. At each point of contact, audiences will be encouraged to engage with additional content available online. Here we will create an online community through social media platforms to continue their journey of discovery and deepen their interest with the subject.

Each email submission, follow, like, and comment will speak to the successful engagement the project has on audiences. And on these platforms, the project will continue to offer engaging content and information that will fight against the issues addressed in WORLDS.
