Boori Monty Pryor will make you laugh & cry at the same time. Depite now being a household name, things weren’t always easy for Boori. When his brother Paul chose to take his own life in the face of systemic racism Boori cast aside his own deep anguish to take on the work his brother had started as a cultural storyteller, performer and teacher. A short summary of the issue the documentary is addressing
Aboriginal Australian men have the highest suicide rate in the world and Aboriginal Australian women have the fastest growing suicide rate in the world. Suicide impacts the lives of 95 per cent of Aboriginal people. The protagonist of our documentary, Boori, was not immune to this, he’d lost three of his siblings before he was 35.

What is the impact vision statement of the documentary?
Storykeepers will confront misconceptions and share the true story of colonial Australia. It will raise awareness of the genocide and horrific policies that have been inflicted on Aboriginal Australians since invasion and explore the impact that continuing racial discrimination has on Australians. Storykeepers will help heal the wounds of colonisation by offering Boori's magical stories and demonstrating that stories have a profound ability to create connection and mutual understanding.
What outcomes does the project hope to achieve from making this documentary?
We want all aboriginal kids out of jail. We want the life expectancy gap closed for young people. We want to stop the growth of rates of suicide for aborigial boys and girls. We want to inspire the next generation of aborigial storytellers. Keep our 300 languages alive. Ensure boori is recognised as a public figure. Demonstrate that Directors like Hayden who have experienced extreme marginalisation are just as worthy and capable of being great artists and contributors to society.
