Every day wild animals lose more of their habitat. We've done a really bad job at sharing the planet with these magnificent creatures and we’re at serious risk of losing them. On the frontline, conservationists work tirelessly, in dangerous conditions, using extreme techniques, doing whatever it takes to restore the balance. It's a global journey that impacts every continent's wildlife, each season will feature a different continent's wild animals.
We start in Southern Africa where the wilderness that once managed itself with an ebb and flow of natural cycles, has been replaced by human managed game reserves. Conservation based tourism is a billion-dollar industry and it’s the commercialisation of wildlife that keeps what’s left of it thriving. But there's a flip-side to conservation that's steeped in controversy and it's brought to light with 'Saving the Wild'

Issue Summary

A short summary of the issue the documentary is addressing

According to the Centre for Biological Diversity, we're in the midst of the Earth’s sixth mass extinction crisis. Scientists predict that more than 1 million species are on track for extinction in the coming decades. Each time species goes extinct, the world around us unravels a bit. The consequences are profound, not just in those places and for those species but for all of us. These are tangible consequential losses, such as crop pollination and water purification, but also spiritual and cultural ones.

Wildlife Conservation efforts come with extreme challenges that are rarely discussed. The general discussion often fails to inform about the major issues and the sacrifices that sometimes have to be made. To successfully protect the future of our wild animals, it's estimated that it would cost 1 billion dollars annually, per country.


What is the impact vision statement of the documentary?

Although often obscured by the noise and rush of modern life, people retain deep emotional connections to the wild world. Wildlife and plants have inspired our histories, mythologies, languages and how we view the world. The presence of wildlife brings joy and enriches us all — and each extinction makes our home a lonelier and colder place for us and future generations. The current extinction crisis is entirely of our own making and it needs to be acknowledged as an emergency by us all.


What outcomes does the project hope to achieve from making this documentary?

Wild spaces need official protection and globally this requires legislation. We hope to raise awareness of the state of emergency our wildlife is in and inspire action by those in position to make change.


How will this documentary achieve its outcomes?

The documentary will achieve this through major networking efforts, utilizing social media like facebook and instagram, connecting to powerful influencers as well as renowned scientists.


How will partnerships with this project help inform the project development?

Our cinematographer is also on the ground working in conservation operations based in South Africa. We work very closely with anybody who is part of the project. We communicate least once per week with our contacts in South Africa regarding expert knowledge to make sure to deliver 100% true facts.

What actions does this project hope for its viewers after seeing this film?

Having more awareness in their everyday life routing, informing themselves further about the topic; scientists starting to support the project; increasing the pressure on government to change the system

Measurement and Evaluation

What is the projects indicators for success?

- We will monitor the amount of donations to our partners in cooperation with the organisations after the release of the documentary as well as throughout the campaign. Significant increases in donations will show that our message has been understood and the campaign was successful
- Reactions on social media and general public response in the media
