Synopsis

DURATION: 90 MINUTES

29 Years Eight Days is an intimate portrayal of a friendship, an obsession, the quest for artistic success, loss and longing in love but most of all it is about the making of an artist in our time. Matt Doust was an internationally renowned portrait painter from Australia who died suddenly from an epileptic fit in 2013. He lived with an innate sense that his life was to be short. It was this sense of brevity that made him paint with extreme conviction, commitment, passion, focus, motivation, love and heart and he achieved more in his 29 years and eight days than others do in a lifetime.

Impact

What is the impact vision statement of the documentary?

Our impact vision is to raise money from the community and philanthropists to contribute to the multi-platform project on the late artist Matt Doust. Funds will go towards the documentary, art book and exhibitions associated with this story. We hope that the campaign raises awareness of the importance of arts in Australia and the experience of epilepsy. We hope that we are able to reach an extensive audience for viewership of the documentary.

What outcomes does the project hope to achieve from making this documentary?

- Raise the profile of the arts in Australia
- Demonstrate the contribution of the late artist Matt Doust
- Improve knowledge around the experience of epilepsy
- Contribute to our skills as filmmakers

How will partnerships with this project help inform the project development?

We have received development funding from Screenwest, Screen Australia and ABC Arts to develop the project. We also have support from Western Australian art galleries and mentors.

Audience Engagement and Social Impact

What actions does this project hope for its viewers after seeing this film?

We hope that viewers would be inspired to donate to the campaign for 29 Years Eight Days to assist us to further the message. We hope that viewers of the documentary would also attend the exhibitions and review the book and other assets we are creating as part of the project. We hope that viewers would be generally more inspired to support the arts and attend arts events in Australia.

Measurement and Evaluation

What is the projects indicators for success?

We will know we have achieved our impact vision once the documentary is released to Australian audiences and we have attendance at the exhibitions and associated events.
